Q&A With Curi Insurance’s Mid-Atlantic Member Services Director

Debbie Gass talks about how her experiences have prepared her to serve practices on the Eastern Seaboard.

Q. Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

A:

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, about a half hour from the Curi office. My mom had the hardest job of them all as a stay-at-home mom, and my dad ran his own auto mechanic business.

When I was growing up, sports were an important part of my life, and I played soccer and softball through high school. Today, my husband Chris and I have three children, 15-year-old Natalie and 12-year-old twins Christopher (Buddy) and Grace. All three of our kids are also athletic and are very active in soccer, basketball, and flag football.

Q. What do you enjoy most about working at Curi?

A:

I appreciate that everyone works as a team and is always willing to help one another in any way. After only being with Curi for less than a year, I have been wholly welcomed by the entire team. Even while working remotely, I have always felt included and that my opinion matters.

Q. Tell us about your career to date and how it has prepared you for your next role.

A:

I have almost 19 years of experience working primarily in the medical malpractice insurance field. For the first 12 years of my career, I worked on the agency side with Boynton & Boynton, now known as Alliant. I loved servicing insureds’ daily needs and helping them to obtain the best coverage possible. I then decided to move to the carrier side, where I went to work for Positive Physicians Insurance Company and was the Director of Underwriting for seven states. In addition to underwriting responsibilities, I also assisted in marketing and building agent relationships, which I believe has helped prepare me for my current position with Curi. I enjoy working with both Curi members and the brokers with whom I’ve formed relationships over the past 10 years.

Q. What do you see as the biggest priority or priorities in your role?

A:

As the Director of Member Services, I feel that my biggest priority is making sure each member and agent knows that they matter and are not just a number. I love learning about people, not only professionally but also on a personal level while building lifelong relationships. I strive daily to provide friendly service in a timely manner to all our members.

Q. What makes you most excited about the future of Curi?

A:

I’m excited to help educate members and agents about the benefits that Curi has to offer across all three of our business units: Curi Insurance, Curi Advisory, and Curi Capital. I truly believe that Curi’s offerings have been strategically designed to help physicians in medicine, business, and life, and I look forward to continuing to share the many ways we deliver on that promise.
