WHO CAN DELEGATE TASKS TO UNLICENSED HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL IN THE OFFICE SETTING?

Physicians and nurses, including advanced practice nurses, can delegate tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel (UHP) and physician assistants may be permitted to do so, based on the terms of their supervisory agreements. When considering the tasks that can be delegated to UHP, physicians and nurses should look to their state professional licensing board for any regulatory or guidance statements on the delegation of medical tasks to unlicensed staff.   An unlicensed worker may not delegate to another unlicensed worker.
