WHAT TYPES OF DUTIES MAY ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDERS SUCH AS PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS AND NURSE PRACTITIONERS PERFORM?

Advanced Practice Providers such as Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) are professionals trained, certified, and licensed to perform such functions as history taking, physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment of commonly encountered medical problems in collaboration and consultation with a licensed physician, and in some instances with respect to NPs, autonomously. In this way, they may be said to extend the physician’s capacity to provide care.
