Advanced Practice Providers such as Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) are professionals trained, certified, and licensed to perform such functions as physical examination, history taking, diagnosis, and treatment of commonly encountered medical problems under the supervision of a licensed physician. In this way, they may be said toextend the physician’s capacity to provide care.
