Q&A With Curi’s Director of Business Development in the Southwest Region

Curi Insurance recently hired Patrick Flanagan as our new Director of Business Development in the Southwest Region. Based out of Austin, Texas, Patrick will lead Curi’s growth and business development efforts in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, and other surrounding states, helping to meet Curi’s goal of expanding our ability to deliver high-quality insurance solutions for physicians and medical practices nationwide.

Q: Please tell us a bit about yourself:

A: I’m originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved with my family to Chicago in 1991 before attending Xavier University in Cincinnati—Go Muskies! I’m big fan of college basketball, but it’s nothing compared to my love of golf. I worked as a professional caddy with aspirations of one day looping on the PGA tour. While that dream may not have materialized, the opportunity to begin a career in the insurance industry presented itself 15 years ago, and I’ve enjoyed a long and successful tenure in the field.

Today, my wife, Marjorie, and I live in Austin, where we’re raising our two children, Carter (6) and Penley (3). As an environmentalist and lover of nature, I really enjoy outdoor activities and make conscious efforts to preserve natural resources through recycling, composting, and organic gardening with my wife. As a result, one of my hobbies definitely includes walking through the aisles of Home Depot.

Q: How has your experience been joining the Curi team?

A: Since joining the team, I’ve been really impressed by the warm and welcoming nature of all my colleagues. The way that they’ve received me is a clear indication of how much Curi values personal connection, and I look forward to seeing how that extends to our members and partners in the future.

Q: Tell us about your career to date and how it has prepared you for your role at Curi.

A: I worked in business development at another medical professional liability carrier for roughly 10 years, developing relationships with physicians and physician groups, medical societies, MGMAs, and brokers and agents across the country. During my career, I’ve found that the most exciting part of my job is the opportunity to meet with physicians and their teams to listen to their challenges and goals as we work together to discover new opportunities for revenue growth, education, and expansion.

Q: What do you see as the biggest priority in your role?

A: My biggest priority in this role is absolutely generating new business opportunities and relationships for the company, and helping our members discover new solutions to grow their businesses through offerings from Curi’s multiple business units. Curi is quickly growing its footprint into new territories with a range of services and solutions, and I look forward to helping establish the necessary partnerships to aid that growth.

Q: What makes you most excited about the future of Curi Insurance?

A: Curi is a member-owned organization, so the prosperity of its members is always the most important factor for every decision. Having spent 15 years in the insurance industry, I can confidently say that Curi is unique in its efforts to serve physicians and their practices with a wide range of resources across our three business units, devoting focus to helping physicians in medicine, business, and life. I’m excited to see how Curi is expanding its offerings with innovative technologies and services for the benefit of our members.
