HHS Further Extends Provider Relief Fund Application Deadline for Medicaid Providers

The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Friday extended until Aug. 28 the deadline for providers participating in Medicaid and CHIP (but not Medicare) to apply for support from the Provider Relief Fund. The previous deadline had been today, Aug. 3. HHS also announced two other important opportunities to receive funding from the Provider Relief Fund. Beginning the week of Aug. 10, HHS will allow Medicare providers who did not apply for funding from the second Medicare General Distribution to apply for additional funds. In some cases, Medicaid and CHIP providers with low Medicare revenues did not apply for this funding, not realizing that they would not be eligible for the separate distribution made to Medicaid and CHIP providers. HHS also will allow eligible new owners of practices that experienced a change in ownership in 2020 to apply for Provider Relief Fund payments starting the week of Aug. 10. Some of these owners did not receive earlier payments from the Provider Relief Fund because the payments were made to the prior owners.
