HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO KEEP OUR MEDICAL RECORDS?

Curi’s first and best advice on record retention is that medical records from all sources be kept in their original form forever or in a legally reproduced form. However, we recognize that this is not practical for most medical offices, especially if the practice maintains paper records.
Curi’s practical advice on retention stems from (1) the application of the statutes of limitations on medical malpractice actions, and; (2) the stated retention periods as documented in the Federal Registry. The following retention schedule is based on those two factors:
