The Role

We’re looking for a highly motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic professional to join our IT team as Director, Software Development. In this role, you will manage and direct software platform teams that maintain, enhance, and evolve Curi’s core insurance processing, reporting, and document management systems. The ideal candidate will be an individual who has worked as a Director of Software Development (or similar role) in the insurance industry. A primary focus of this position is communicating with stakeholders across the company, including customers, business managers, and other IT teams to make sure the goals are clear and the vision is aligned with corporate business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the insurance software development and support function, including direct management of supervisors, product owners, developers, and analysts
  • Collaborate with product vendors, architects, and business units to translate business requests into work items for the development teams to implement
  • Assess value, supervise development, and manage the prioritization of features to ensure work focuses on those items with maximum value that are aligned with business/product strategy
  • Manage an appropriately prioritized backlog of work items for implementation
  • Work with project managers, product owners, and technical leads to influence scope and priorities for product development
  • Inspire and motivate the development teams to deliver innovative and exciting solutions with an appropriate sense of urgency
  • Work with key stakeholders across the company to ensure successful product releases
  • Provide training and presentations
  • Author and update internal and external policies and procedures
  • Provide courteous, responsive service
  • Effectively manage vendors to maximize value

Skills

  • Insurance industry systems experience
  • Business Objects, Crystal Reports, PowerBI or SQL experience
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • Imaging system experience (preferably OnBase)

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience as a software development manager in the insurance industry
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or similar field
  • Strong organization, communication, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Ability to lead IT critical projects
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and strong technical knowledge
  • A positive attitude with a service delivery mentality
  • Ability to coach/mentor IT staff members to function as a highly effective team
  • Enthusiasm for investigating and implementing new software tools/applications (off the shelf and internally developed)
  • Ability to work independently and supervise a diverse staff
