Director, Actuarial Services

The Role

We’re looking for a strategic and data-driven individual to lead our Actuarial team as Director, Actuarial Services. In this role, you will help us coordinate core functions, such as rate filings, product development, and technical account pricing.

In addition, you will be responsible for creating and managing robust portfolio analysis capabilities and reinsurance modeling. You will help us analyze trends and develop business strategies to address the changing healthcare environment. You will also be a member of the cross-functional team leading the company’s data and analytics strategy.


  • Manage and develop the actuarial team
  • Manage profitability of the insurance portfolio through rate analyses and coordinate external rate filings
  • Take leading roles in both reserving and reinsurance analyses
  • Develop rates and program structures for existing and new business opportunities
  • Manage and enhance pricing tools to assess the core insurance business
  • Work closely with other functional areas to assess and create custom risk transfer solutions for complex accounts
  • Produce and manage technical reports for routine presentations to senior and executive leadership
  • Facilitate communication and provide technical guidance to Underwriting and other functional departments regarding the pricing of new and/or existing business
  • Work with third-party vendors to support the company’s data strategy, including predictive modeling and data lake creation
  • Lead and/or participate in special projects to improve operational excellence within the insurance company and support company growth targets
  • Stay current in functional area of expertise—on industry trends and developments—and assure knowledge transfer within the organization


  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of core functions of an insurance company and actuarial concepts
  • Ability to develop a high level of technical expertise and product-specific knowledge
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve problems of varying complexity
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners, including executive leadership
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and complete work and/or projects effectively
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound business decisions

Required Education and Experience:

  • ACAS Designation
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty insurance experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • FCAS Designation
  • Prior management experience
  • 7-10 years of Property & Casualty insurance experience
  • Medical Professional Liability insurance experience
