The Role

We are looking for an analytical, independent actuarial professional to join our Underwriting Department as an Actuarial Assistant, reporting to the Director, Actuarial Services. In this role, you will be responsible for driving medical professional liability product analytics integral with evolving profitable growth strategies in the rapidly changing healthcare environment. You will be responsible for executing individual risk-pricing tools, working with underwriting and technology partners, and harnessing emerging strategic data.

You will perform and lead product rate, development, filings, and profitability analysis for medical professional liability. Additionally, you will design and produce portfolio management dashboards and KPI data models, partnering with our IT team and other functional area team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform calculations and studies incorporating advanced analytics
  • Develop rates and program structures for existing and new business opportunities
  • Enhance pricing tools and analyze trends
  • Monitor profitability
  • Produce KPI and technical reports and communicate with other analytical staff and management, including presentations to senior management and customers
  • Facilitate communication and provide technical guidance to Underwriting and other functional departments regarding the pricing of new and/or existing business
  • Lead and/or participate in special projects
  • Stay current in functional area of expertise and on industry trends and developments; assure knowledge transfer within the organization

Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of core functions of an insurance company and actuarial concepts
  • Ability to develop a high level of technical expertise and produce specific knowledge
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve problems of varying complexity
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners

  • Strong Microsoft Office, PowerBI and/or Data Visualization software skills

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • 5 years of actuarial experience in Property & Casualty insurance
  • Medical Professional Liability insurance experience
  • Bachelor degree preferably in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics
  • 3 years of Property & Casualty insurance experience
  • Completion of 4+ actuarial exams
